Pharmaceutical manufacturing firm continues to expand in U.S. since becoming part of SK Holdings in 2018

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. (Sept. 4, 2019) – AMPAC Fine Chemicals (AFC), a leading manufacturer of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) in the United States, was joined Wednesday by U.S. Rep. Ami Bera, M.D., (D-Calif.) to discuss ways to continue fostering technology jobs in the Sacramento area and across the nation.

Bera held a town hall with employees at AFC headquarters in Rancho Cordova to exchange ideas on how to create the right environment for growing jobs that provide more opportunities for U.S. workers and generate lasting benefits for their surrounding communities.

AFC makes key ingredients supplied to pharmaceutical companies across the U.S. that are critical components for medicines treating patients with such life-threatening conditions as central nervous system deficiencies, cancer and epilepsy.

In 2018 AFC was acquired by SK Holdings, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, which has since been investing in the U.S. operations. AFC has more than 500 employees across the U.S. with plans to expand.

Congressman Bera represents California’s 7th Congressional District, which resides entirely within Sacramento County and includes the AFC headquarters. He is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Vice Chair of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.

AFC’s workforce represents a range of skilled employees including Ph.Ds, research and development professionals, engineers, chemical operators, advanced manufacturing team members, and quality control and assurance experts. In addition to its Rancho Cordova headquarters and nearby site in El Dorado Hills, Calif., AFC has U.S. manufacturing capacity in Texas and a recently re-opened facility in Virginia.

“We were excited to host Congressman Bera for a meaningful discussion with our employees about how to ensure positive growth that delivers both economic and social value through our U.S. operations,” said Dr. Aslam Malik, AFC President and CEO. “AFC and SK Holdings are committed to working with Congressman Bera and other key leaders to find ways to develop innovative technologies, processes and products that benefit our employees, customers and the community.”
